One of the most common questions we get from new clients: 'Where should we do the shoot?' Southern California offers extraordinary variety — hillsides, vineyards, urban architecture, beaches, desert landscapes — all within reach of Riverside. Here are the locations we return to most often and why each one works.

Jurupa Hills — The Local Favorite

The hills around Jurupa Valley are a short drive from central Riverside and offer dramatic golden-hour light, rolling terrain, and enough open sky to create depth in every frame. The dry grass in summer and green in spring give the location completely different looks across the year. This is where we take clients who want something cinematic without traveling far.

Chino Hills State Park — Green and Dramatic

The rolling hillsides of Chino Hills State Park turn a rich green from January through April — some of the most lush, European-looking landscapes in Southern California. The light at golden hour here is extraordinary, bouncing off the hillsides in warm, soft tones. It's a 30-minute drive from Riverside and worth every minute.

Downtown Riverside — Architecture and Character

For clients who want something with texture and visual interest beyond natural landscapes, downtown Riverside delivers. Mission Inn and the surrounding blocks offer Spanish Colonial architecture, wrought iron details, and courtyard spaces that feel genuinely historic. We love this location for senior portraits, engagement sessions, and commercial work.

Temecula Wine Country — Vineyards and Golden Light

About 45 minutes south of Riverside, Temecula's wine country is worth the drive for the right client. Vine rows stretching to the horizon, warm oak and stone architecture, and the particular quality of light that settles into this valley in the late afternoon — it's the kind of setting that makes photos look like they belong in a magazine. Ideal for engagement sessions and weddings.

Corona Lake and Lakeside Areas

Water introduces reflection, softness, and a calming element to portraits. Corona's lake areas offer lakeside access with mountain backdrops — particularly beautiful at golden hour when the sky and water mirror each other. A solid option for maternity sessions, family portraits, and couples.

How to Choose the Right Location for Your Session

  • Consider the vibe you want: romantic, editorial, natural, or urban
  • Match the season to the location — hills are greenest in spring
  • Always shoot at golden hour for the most flattering light
  • Factor in travel time — an extra 20 minutes for a better location is worth it
  • Trust your photographer's recommendation — we know where the light lands

Not sure which location is right for your session? Tell us what you're going for and we'll recommend the spot that fits. We've photographed across all of these locations — and dozens more — and we match clients to settings intentionally, not by default.
