The Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa sits in Rancho Mirage, ringed by the San Jacinto and San Bernardino mountains. It's a classic Coachella Valley resort — Spanish architecture, water features, tall palms, and nine indoor and outdoor spaces that can host an intimate ceremony or a wedding of several hundred. For a photographer, it's a property that gives you variety in a short walk: manicured lawn, rooftop terrace, fairway, and shaded courtyards all within the same grounds.
The trade-off with the desert is the light — it's big and bright, and it rewards a photographer who plans around it. We build the day so your ceremony and portraits fall in the warm, forgiving hours, and use the resort's shade and architecture to keep midday coverage flattering.
We're based in Riverside — about an hour west on the I-10 — and cover weddings across Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, and La Quinta.

Las Palmas Lawn
The resort's signature ceremony space — a manicured green lawn framed by mature palm trees with the San Jacinto Mountains rising behind. It photographs open and private at once, and the palms cast long, clean shadows in late-afternoon light.
Starlight Terrace
A rooftop reception space with string lights strung between the pillars and mountain views on every side. Come sunset and blue hour, the strung lights and the last color on the peaks make for one of the best reception backdrops in the desert.
The 5th Fairway & resort grounds
Open fairway and garden pockets across the property give room for larger ceremonies and relaxed group portraits, with fountains, arches, and Spanish-tile architecture close by for couple portraits.
Around the resort
Courtyards, water features, and shaded arcades scattered through the property mean we can move a quick portrait session without ever leaving the grounds — useful when the desert sun is high mid-day.

In the Coachella Valley the middle of the day is bright and hard — beautiful, but unforgiving. The window that makes a desert wedding sing is the last hour before sunset, when the mountains warm up and the light goes soft and directional across the Las Palmas Lawn.
For an outdoor ceremony, we suggest starting about two hours before sunset. That puts the vows, the family formals, and your couple portraits inside the golden window — then we head up to the Starlight Terrace for blue hour and the string lights.
Fall, winter, and spring are peak desert wedding season for good reason — the weather is kind and the light is long. Summer weddings work too; we just lean harder on shade and evening timing.

Do you travel to Rancho Las Palmas in Rancho Mirage?
Yes. Omni Rancho Las Palmas is about an hour east of our Riverside base via the I-10, in the heart of the Coachella Valley. We regularly cover Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, and La Quinta weddings. A modest travel allowance may apply for the desert depending on the season and coverage — we'll quote it clearly up front, no surprises.

When is the best light for a desert-resort wedding here?
The Coachella Valley runs hot and bright, so the magic is at the edges of the day. Golden hour — roughly the last hour before sunset — turns the San Jacinto Mountains warm and gives soft, directional light on the Las Palmas Lawn. We recommend timing the ceremony about two hours before sunset so vows, family formals, and couple portraits all land inside that window, then catch blue hour up on the Starlight Terrace.
How do you handle the desert heat and harsh midday sun?
We plan the timeline around it. For a midday ceremony we use the resort's shaded arcades and courtyards for portraits, add fill light to soften hard shadows, and keep couple sessions short and efficient so no one is baking in the sun. Late-afternoon and evening weddings are ideal here and we build the schedule to protect the best light.
Do you shoot both the ceremony on the lawn and the reception on the terrace?
Yes — full-day coverage moves with you from the Las Palmas Lawn ceremony through cocktails and the reception on the Starlight Terrace or in the ballrooms. With nine ceremony and reception spaces on property, we scout the flow ahead of time so we're always in position for the next moment.
