Civil ceremonies in San Bernardino.

I photographed Victoria and Walter’s civil ceremony at San Bernardino City Hall. A civil wedding is a short, busy window — the ceremony itself is minutes, there is usually a line, and the room belongs to everybody that morning. Almost everything worth keeping happens in the twenty minutes before and the twenty minutes after.

So the plan is simple: arrive early enough to shoot the two of you before the appointment, cover the ceremony itself without getting in the officiant’s way, and then take whoever came with you outside for portraits while everyone is still dressed and still happy.

San Bernardino is half an hour from Riverside, so there is no travel fee. If your day is a full wedding rather than a civil ceremony, most of what I shoot in this part of the county happens in banquet halls — there is more on what those rooms do to your photographs in this guide. For the civil-ceremony side specifically, see San Bernardino courthouse weddings.
